Hi everybody. I have recently created a group on facebook called "Save the Lakes!" This group is in place in order to protest and raise awareness of the issues caused by these hydroelectric dams. I encourage you to join the group and help spread the word.

unfourtunatly ontario is just the same. there are proposed dams for almost every river thats worth running.
canada is selling out our resources.....thanks free trade!

Boaters the world over revere BC for it's amazing whitewater. Today, a growing number of our best runs are threatened by so-called 'run-of-the-river' hydro projects. Public opposition (on so many levels - irresponsible development, wilderness encroachment, loss or recreational areas and wildlife habitat, etc...) is growing and the government is beginning to notice. However, we still need help from non-residents. One of the most important things people outside of BC can do (besides donate to the BC creek protection society, of course) is to contact both the BC Ministry of Environment (http://www.gov.bc.ca/env/) and Ministry of Tourism (http://www.gov.bc.ca/tsa/) to express your disapproval of the government's current policies with regard to run-of-the-river projects.
