As far as the gaskets go, take a couple of cans, maybe slightly bigger than soup cans (I've used cans of beans on my dry top) and stuff the cans through the gaskets. Then just leave them like that for a few days. It'll stretch the gaskets out a little bit but not enough to compromise the water-tightness.
I'd love to paddle--all the water out here is frozen solid. Brrr. It was 6 degrees when I went for my walk this morning.
I've got a pair of Stohlquist, I think they're called "mooners" or something like that. I've never actually worn them though; the gaskets on the ankles are painfully tight, and I've never gotten around to cutting them down.
