Great Point Santha - I don't know how many times I've heard that and its seems so true!
That said, I'm always surprised at how many beginners I see going out and buying a playboat right off the bat. After running my first river in a creekboat, the first time I ran a playboat I spent ALOT of time upside down (and swimming ;-)
I wonder if a person has the balls to stick it out in a playboat if its better to learn in that because it is less stable and you'd learn better edge control right away? Complete speculation here -- and I'm sure it also depends on what type of boating a person is interested in.
Regardless of the boat - one thing I did experience firsthand in my first river running class was how important outfitting is (tip for the ladies ... http://www.riverangels.com/ssp/hot-tips?news_id=8)
