Personally (and I'm new too ;-) I really like the Pyranna Ammo. Its a playful creek boat, and I'm able to roll it without too much trouble. Most reviews say its good for beginners, but versatile so you won't grow out of it too fast.

You'll need to get on some rivers and try out some real boats to decide on what you want to paddle. Find something cheap to start with though.
